As part of compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR), the MDC is required to identify the materials in their drinking water system, including water service lines and must make an online inventory of them publicly available.

MDC drinking water does not contain lead when it leaves our water treatment plants and is in compliance with all EPA drinking water regulations.  However, water service lines and older internal plumbing fixtures at the property level could contain lead.  While the safety of our water has not changed, EPA’s LCRR requires additional measures to identify and remove lead from water systems. The revised rule requires MDC to identify the materials of the water service lines at each individual property and a further update to the rule requires any lines found to contain lead to be replaced, all by 2037.
