When connecting to the public water supply for a new connection a water application is required. MDC requires a licensed, bonded and insured contractor to install the water service. A water tap is required which will be performed by MDC. The qualified contractor will pay a fee for the tap and schedule that work with MDC. A full inspection is conducted by MDC throughout the install process to protect the customer and the MDC water supply.
When installing new or repairing a sewer lateral on private property, a sewer permit is required. MDC requires a licensed, bonded and insured contractor to perform this work. MDC will conduct a full inspection of the connection into the sanitary sewer.
When inquiring about water and sewer assessments due for a property, a property site plan and land deed is required plus a fee to research the land records. The assessment process can take from 2 to 4 weeks to research, calculate and prepare lien documents depending on your payment methods. Water assessments are based on land frontage while sewer is based on acreage and or dwelling unit and frontage. Different rates apply. Sewer connection charges will be applied for each dwelling unit serviced.
