SMALL CONTRACTOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

With the Small Contractor Development Academy, certificate programs and mobile service centers, the MDC provides diverse contractors with a multitude of industry education opportunities. Additionally, the office of diversity provides outreach meetings for contractors including  business opportunity conferences, business card exchange, pre bid/bid package briefings and business to buyer match maker sessions.

Through the MDC’s contractor development programs, locally based firms offering construction related services are provided the opportunity to:

  • Network with general contractors, major trade subcontractors, material suppliers and MDC staff
  • Understand the forecast of upcoming capital projects and the associated contracting opportunities
  • Receive professional development and technical assistance
  • Gain access to small business support organizations and their services
  • Advance skills in critical construction business areas

ON THE JOB TRAINING FOR YOUNG ADULTS

Through a partnership with the Community Renewal Team’s Youthbuild Program, the MDC works with young adults to get the training and skills needed to qualify and obtain a career within the construction trades or in contract administration, material supply or public information work. Participants in the On-the-Job Training (OJT) program are also able to earn their GED while in the program to further their careers.
